A Perfect Day

Sunday was Mother’s Day and it was also my birthday. It happens every so often that they’re both on the same day. What more could I ask for than to spend it with my boys – Dad, Marc, and Marshall. Marc made me a fancy omelet for breakfast and Marshall greeted me with “Happy Birthday Mum” (with some coaching from daddy). I spent some time out in the garden planting tomatoes before I came in for lunch. My dad made a killer seafood congee (jook) for our noontime meal.

dsc_0124_blog.jpg We later had noodles and stir fried shrimp for dinner and for dessert – a coconut cake from Whole Foods. Marshall was so excited to dig into the cake but we told him that the table had to be cleaned of dinner plates and food first. Marc and I started cleaning and my dad was sitting at the table. Marshall looked at my dad and exclaimed, “Kung Kung – clean table!”. Talk about a dessert-motivated kid.

It was a perfect day spent relaxing and enjoying food and the company of my family.

Saturday At the Zoo

Last Saturday my dad and I took Marshall to the zoo. It was an overcast and cool day and little did we know that it was the “Mom and Me at the Zoo” event that they have every Mother’s Day. There were animals to see but a lot of them were in their dens or sleeping (Bad weather? Too early?).   As my dad commented, there were a lot of people for the animals to look at.  Some highlights:

M and N

Marshall and Noco that is.  Kerwin and Roz invited us over for a sushi pot luck a few weekends ago and we had a blast.  Marshall immediately made friends with their dog Noco.  He even knew Noco’s name before we did.  I saw him running around calling, “Nogo, Nogo!” and it was only then did I realize he was calling Noco.  Here are some shots of him and his furry friend.

What cuties!

And back to the food and company.  We had a great time meeting R&K’s family, and we also had fun inventing new sushi rolls.  Like the crunchy bacon, cream cheese, and teriyaki salmon roll.  Or the pouch-pack bacon, crunchy bacon and salmon roll.  Bring on the bacon!
