Playdate with Jake

Marshall and I met Suzanne for a playdate with her son Jake at University Village a few Sundays ago.  Jake so graciously shared his motorcycle toys with Marshall and they had a good play session at the jungle gym outside L’Occitane.  Here are some photos from that morning.

Taking turns going down the slide.

Having fun at the frog fountain.

Waiting for lunch at World Wraps!

New Wheels

I found a cute little bike with training wheels a few weeks ago and Marshall loves riding it on the deck.  We don’t have a driveway or sidewalks on which he can practice riding so the deck is his practice ground.  He loves his new wheels!  We can’t wait till Ora takes him on his first mountain bike excursion.  BTW, Did anyone notice that the shed has moved?

SIFF Opening Night

Marc and I lucked out and were given tickets to the Seattle International Film Festival’s opening night screening of the movie “Battle in Seattle”.  The movie was directed by Stuart Townsend; Charlize Theron and Michelle Rodriguez among others were to be there that night.  Here we are before stepping out the door to stand in line with about 3000 other people that were at McCaw Hall that evening.  We had a fun time watching the movie, people watching, and celebrity gazing.

2008 Seattle Cheese Festival

The day after we enjoyed the yummy cake we turned our epicurian minds to the Seattle Cheese Festival at Pike Place Market. We arrived early on Sunday May 18th and sampled a lot of cheeses. I came home with a 14oz wheel of my favourite, Humboldt Fog goat cheese and a huge slice of Truffle Tremor.

The boys perusing the food samples; Marshall having fun on Rachel the pig.

Trying to pet the stunt parrot; Marshall and Marc on the Cheese Festival sidelines.

A trip to the market wouldn’t be complete without buying a bag of fresh, hot mini doughnuts! Look at the pile of teeny doughnuts behind the woman. We bought a bag of six and didn’t finish them, they were that filling.

Chestnut Cake

My Dad was here visiting us mid-May so I took the opportunity to make a Chinese chestnut cream cake for my Dad’s birthday. I wanted a cake devoid of chemicals and fillers so I made the yellow sponge cake (yellow from egg yolks and not food coloring), chestnut paste filling, and whipped cream. The result was delicious!

Cake and filling… Then whipped cream… And finally – the fruit!

Marshall and my dad waiting to dig into the cake.

Little Garden Guy

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything so hang on – it’s catch up time!

We were at Swanson’s Nursery a month ago and I saw these adorable kids garden gloves. Swanson’s is the Disneyland of garden centers – one can spend hours there perusing the grounds. They have an excellent gift shop and lots of things that you won’t find at a regular garden store. What caught my eye were Westfield garden gloves in a tiny toddler size. They were expensive but I splurged since Marshall does a lot of digging in the dirt with us when we’re outside. Westfield makes nice gloves (even I don’t have a pair) and they fit him perfectly. The last photo is of him putting the gloves to use.
